Urban mobility seems to be getting more and more important to automakers – especially Honda. The Japanese automaker has dropped what it calls a ‘Micro Commuter Prototype’ or a micro-sized electric vehicle.

“This vehicle was developed in consideration of the vehicle categories for micro-sized mobility products that are currently being discussed under the initiative of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Japan as well as for the regulations for the L7 category in Europe,” Honda said in a statement.

Honda will begin demo testing in Japan in 2013.

Power for the Honda Micro Commuter Prototype comes from a small electric motor with an output of 15 kW allowing it to hit a top speed of 49 mph and drive a total of 37 miles on a single charge. The lithium-ion batter takes about 3 hours to reach full charge.
